Prep

I'm currently reading Prep by Curtis Sittenfield. So far, (page 102 of 380+) it is one of the most realistic novels I've read. It has no mystical or world-saving plot; there's just an observant 14-year old narrating her story. If you have read Memoirs of a Geisha, you'll find them pretty similar (prep is way better, though. IMHO). You don't really know where the story will revolve, what the exact conflict or climax is. You just follow the daily routine of a certain character. Also, there are bits of wisdom and "so someone else noticed!" moments in between pages, if only you would pause and think about it.

If certain universities accepted me, I'd probably be bawling while reading it. (Or maybe not. I'm probably in a gap-year.)

My feelings are like

the quantum theory.

Whenever I have colds

I always wonder
whether

it's SARS.

Out with my mom

She asked me, "Is this comforter nice?"

I blinked. That was my reply. No words.

But in my mind I was, "Mom, do not ever expect me to give a coherent, sensible, sober, clear, logical, rational or even sane judgment, when it comes to anything orange."

Jmusic survey

All right folks. Here it is.

1A) Do you like Aliene Maφriage? Don't know them.

2A) Do you like 嵐 (Arashi)? Just heard of them, but never really bothered. I thought (and still do) they are this wussy pop boygroup.

3A) Do you like /\ucifer? Hell YES YES YES YES YES. Esp. Makoto. And I discovered them only by the most unusual chance. Too bad they're no longer together.

4A) Do you like BAISER? Don't know them.

5A) Do you like Dear Loving? Don't know them.

6A) Do you like Dir en grey? Not much. Their music is too hard core (or something). Cleaver Sleazoid is especially =s. I call them the "harder Siam Shade", though. :p

7A) Do you like Do As Infinity? A bit. They have good songs here and there, but their type of music does not really appeal to me.
7B) If so, what is your favourite song by them? Week!
7C) And who is your favourite member? None really. Perhaps Dai himself.

8A) Do you like Dué le Quartz? Don't know them.

9A) Do you like Glay? Yes. I'm not crazy or whatever, but I like a number of their songs. And I contend (to those who claim they're unclassfiable) that they're pop with a hint of rock.

10A) Do you like KinKi Kids? Erm... no. I just heard of them, but I thought they are too poppish, so I never really bothered.

11A) Do you like 黒夢 (Kuroyume)? ...Don't know them.

12A) Do you like L’Arc~en~Ciel? Yes. Who doesn't?
12B) What's your favorite song? Hmmm... I don't know. Vivid Colors? Flower? Fourth Avenue Cafe? Pieces? I don't know. One of those.
12C) And who is your favourite member? I hereby deviate from the usual and declare... Tetsu. :p Hyde is great, too.

13A) Do you like La’cryma Christi? Have only listened to two of their songs. (Thank you, pathetic world of mp3-sharing.) Barely remembered.

14A) Do you like La’Mule? Mule? Hahaha. I don't know them.

15A) Do you like LUNA SEA? haven't really gotten around to listening them. The almighty Siam Shade used to be their back-up band though, so they must be good.

16A) Do you like Madeth Gray’ll? Don't know them.

17A) Do you like MALICE MIZER? Surprisingly, yes. At first all the pipes whatsoever annoyed me, but I realized their charm.

18A) Do you like Missalina Rei? Don't know them.

19A) Do you like モーニング娘。(Morning Musume) ? Fuck, no. Haven't really listened to them but... japanese girls singing pop songs? Gon.

20A) Do you like NOi’X? Don't know them.

21A) Do you like Noir Fleurir? Just downloaded a song (and that's the only one available) last night. From the song, I think the instrumentals are pretty ok, but I don't get the vocals.

22A) Do you like PENICILLIN? Haven't gotten around them, too. x_x

23A) Do you like PIERROT? Yes, a bit. None of their songs stand-out much when I listen to them, but they're good.

24A) Do you like Psycho le Cému? Don't know them.

25A) Do you like Plastic Tree? I don't know. I couldn't find a song of theirs. <.<

26A) Do you like Shazna? Don't really know them. Just heard.

27A) Do you like Siam Shade? Bloody blieau YES YES YES YES YES. They're the best, and I don't care if you disagree.
27B) What's your favorite song? I don't know. I like a lot. Love Vampire, 1/3Junjou no Kanjou, Over the Rainbow, Black, Love is Power, I am I, Lovesick, Rain. Oh wait. I have decided. I like Dear the most. For instrumentals, Triptych, hands down. (Btw, I have almost all of their songs. XD)
27C) Who's your favorite member? Hideki. Daita comes next.

28A) Do you like Silver Ash? ...Oh, right. It's not Dragon Ash. I don't know them.

29A) Do you like SMAP? ...Yes, a bit. They're poppish selves should make me cringe, but they do have good songs. And they're funny. :p

30A) Do you like T.M.Revolution? The solo fellow? Oh. They're a band? Well, I don't know. All I know is that I hate the guts of the vocalist.
30B) If so, what is your favourite song by them? NA.
30C) And who is your favourite member? Definitely not the fanservicing fag in the vocals.

31A) Do you like THE BACK HORN? Haven't really listened to them yet.

32A) Do you like the brilliant green? Yes :) Nice style.

33A) Do you like The Yellow Monkey? YES. They're the less passive The Pillows (which reminds me... where are they?). Too bad Limewire isn't cooperating.

34A) Do you like Two-Mix? Don't know them.
34B) If so, what is your favourite song by them? NA.
34C) And who is your favourite member? NA.

35A) Do you like V6? I don't dislike them, but sometimes they do get on my nerves. They'll never match-up with SMAP. They're too pretentious.
35B) What's your favorite song by them? Hmmm... Feel your Breeze.
35C) And who is your favourite member? NA.

36A) Do you like Vizell? Don't know them.

37A) Do you like Whiteberry? Don't know them.

38A) Do you like Wyse? I can't say I like them, but I've been hunting them for ages. Not much results, though.

39A) Do you like JUDY AND MARY? Ah... hahaha. Yes. Girl-with-a-high-voice rock, for a change. :)

40A) Do you like Balzac? ....Balzac? No, I don't know them but... Balzac? That's me!

41A) Do you like X JAPAN? Yes. Only their ballads though. Their rock is too hard for me. Actually, I didn't like them at first. I couldn't stand Toshi then. But I realized that his voice fits their kind of music.
41C) Favourite other song? Longing, ~Togireta Melody~
41D) Pre- or post-Taiji? Don't know.
41E) And who is your favorite member? Yoshiki xp hide too. Er... all of them, minus Toshi.
41F) Do you now hate Toshi? Not hate, but I dislike him a bit. I mean, god, his selfishness and stubbornness to join Masaya and his cult have cost the legendary band to cease (JUST LIKE THAT) and..., while many will disagree... hide's life.

SOLO ARTISTS

42A) Do you like 新居昭乃 (ARAI Akino) ? Don't know her.
42B) If so, what is your favourite song by her? NA.
42C) Does that song also happen to be in a well known anime? NA.

43A) Do you like Gackt? Yeah, I suppose. He's pretty okay. And he's goddamn witty and talented.
43C) Do you like him better as a solo artist or when he was in Malice Mizer? Hmm... solo. Mana is a bad influence. :p

44A) Do you like 浜崎あゆみ (HAMASAKI Ayumi) ? Not really. Her songs are ok, but not one I would listen to.
44B) If so, what is your favorite song by her? Angel Song.

45A) Do you like hitomi? ...just heard of her, but not really listened to her songs.
45B) If so, what is your favorite song by her? NA.

46A) Do you like HYDE? Yeah.
46C) Do you prefer him with Laruku or as a solo artist? With Laruku. Well, yeah, I haven't really heard his solo works but... still Laruku. Hahaha.

47A) Do you like 倉木麻衣 (KURAKI Mai)? Heard of her, not her songs. Pop eh. XD

48A) Do you like 坂本真綾 (SAKAMOTO Maaya) ? I only know Purachina XD And that song's good.

49A) Do you like 椎名林檎 (SHIINA Ringo) ? Haven't really minded her.

50A) Do you like hide? Yes.
50B) Was he better with Zilcht or Spread Beaver? I don't know Zilcht, but Spread Beaver is good.
50C) Which “era” of X / X Japan did you like him best in? Don't know the eras.
50D) Is hide still God in your opinion? I never thought he is. Daita still. Hahahahaha.

"Thank you for purchasing Limewire PRO."

I'm so pissed right now that I downloaded the ripped Limewire PRO, even if I swore to myself that I'd rather pay that meager $14.95 in gratitude for my Siam Shade X-ish Siam Shade mp3/m4a collection.

I know that this is not really a usual way to vent anger, but then, so am I.

(Did that even make sense?)

Which Hunter X Hunter Character Are You?

Saturday, March 18, 2006

Why why why why why why why

Before LT6, I kind of kissed an A exemption in Ma19 goodbye. I needed around 108 (not considering the two additional homeworks that I perfected [a remarkable feat, since usually I get one mistake for one reason or the other, while the class rejoiced in their perfect scores], which I don't know the point of) to make it, and while 110/100 in last LT was lovely, I doubt I could do a repeat.

After LT6, I was feeling lightheaded. I had the potential to get a perfect score. Of course I may also not, but most likely, it will be due to minor errors. Exemption has become possible. Well, of course 108 is 108, but I was placing my faith on those homeworks and the almighty power of rounding-off.

It turned out that I indeed perfected it (2-peat, baby), but only qualified for a B+ exemption.

This is frustration in its utmost. 8 points. EIGHT FRIGGING POINTS. And I was looking forward to a Finals-less week. And, the thing is, I could've gotten these 8 points anywhere. These anywhere include:

1. LT1. I got a 75. If it weren't for that stupid mistake, I could've done a 99.
2. LT2. If only LT1 did not depress me.
3. HWs, SWs. Always 9/10, 14/15, blah blah blah. Because I couldn't care less. I should have.
4. LT3. x^2 is not equal to x. :/
5. Midterms. Errors sprinkled everywhere. I did not even bother to console myself.
6. LT4. Sprinkled errors, too. Lost, what? 9 points?

Hrngh.

I don't know how

or why, but the Siam Shade fandom is expanding. Not in mind-boggling proportions, but it still is nonetheless. Last year, it would've been impossible to find an English website about them but now, I see quite a number. It's a bit unusual, of course. They have disbanded 4 years ago; you'd expect their popularity to wane or whatever. But not in this case. (Well, it did wane, but I thought this will continue until eternity. But nooooooo. They're kicking back.)

And, already, I've heard one or two people claim they're legendary. I think this is a bit off, but it still means that my obsession for their music is not "just me". Even Petrucci (I don't really know how great he is) said Siam Shade's a "cool band", and seemed to take a liking on the amazing Daita.

Argh. Siam Shade, why did you stop at Budokan? You could've at least aimed for, say, Otakon. WHY DID YOU STOP JUST RIGHT THERE? Go back together. You're best as a group. Nothing's happening with your solo careers anyway.

I'll be waiting.

PS. Hideki, leave that new image right NOW. You look like those wussy Asianovela stars. THAT CAN'T BE.

I entirely forgot about the pi-day

Damn it. I was busy worrying over Fil paper and Physics LT then.

Argh. Argh.

I wasn't able to see what MIT did, too. Hrgh. Last year, they filled their entire page with pi up to hundreds of decimal places.

Damn it still. :/

That's worse than saying John Hopkins.

It's not the theory special of relativity, either.

I was just visiting

Hideki's blog. I glossed over the page, wondering if it's still being updated. My eyes noticed the dates; it was all 2006 March.

I puzzled over this. Maybe babelfish translated the dates wrong. Maybe the Japanese people have their own calendar. Or maybe it's the site's database that is wrong. Unlikely reasons, but what the hell. There has to be an explanation. March 2006 has not arrived yet.

And there, folks, goes the answer.

I'm losing track of time.

Saturday, March 11, 2006

Last night, I dreamt that...

I picked-up the guitar and performed onstage with X Japan.

I don't know what song we played, but it wasn't metal or ballad. I also remember peeking at a fellow guitarist for the chords, because I do not memorize them.

.......

Oh God. It couldn't be hide, could it?

College has really gotten into me

I'm now forgetting the names of my High School classmates, and whether they had been my classmates in this certain year or not.

So you're Keno!

After years of searching, I may finally have an idea of how the ever-elusive Keno looks like:

(Probably, the guy in the center.)

You don't know how significant this discovery is for me. See, Keno is the singer (and composer?) of the wonderful Ohayou, first opening of HxH. The song, as the title suggests, is about waking-up in the morning and facing another day.

Put it simply, the song is wonderful. I could practically hear the leaves rustling and inhale the morning breeze whenever I listen to this. Every note has a touch of freshness, and Keno's voice show hopefulness.

So it was some of my silly quests to find how he looks like. I remember searching google 40 pages deep for any hint, only to find countless of these gambling pages. Then there was the speculation that maybe he is old, or that he's a foreign singer who just had a stint with Japan.

Now, after a simple search at CD Japan, I finally found HIM. The picture is almost useless for its size, but hey, it's a start. The picture is actually too sacred that I didn't change its filename.

What I learned:
1. He's young
2. Keno is the artist, but is also the name of the band
3. They released only 1 full-length album back in 2000, and one mini-album at around 1999. 1999 one possibly back in their indies days, and 2000 was supposedly their "break." However, they didn't become famous. Most likely, they have already disbanded.

It's a shame, really. I don't know about their other songs, but Ohayou is mighty awesome.

They (he) don't deserve this.

I guess I just have to buy their cd in appreciation. That, and because Limewire fails me.

What?

I was answering this BBC quiz "Do you see what I see?" I'm already in Part 2. I was asked to see what shape the numbers 2 formed among the sea of 5. I got the first one right, but after about 10 seconds. The next trial problem only gives me 1 second to answer.

The picture was shown. Then it disappeared.

I blinked repeatedly. I BARELY saw anything. But the test says I can just guess, so I chose diamond.

The picture was shown again. I guess I got it wrong. I answered rectangle this time.

The picture was shown again. Wrong again. I answered square. I didn't choose triangle because it was the answer to the previous question.

The picture again. I finally answered the choice left, triangle.

So you could only imagine my shock when the results said:

You've spotted 4 out of 4 shapes.
On average, people who have completed this experiment, spotted 1 out of 4 shapes.

It turned out that I got EVERYTHING right! Imagine! And I was guessing the entire time! I really didn't see anything!

This is a cause for celebration. The probability of me getting the answers right by randomly guessing is just 4%!

Heeheeheeheehee.
